First ride of the winter

Post by Barrie2777 » Sat Nov 17, 2018 6:41 pm

Today was the day! Below freezing; slight wind;6 inches of snow. Before starting any Hus-ski I check that the needle isnt stuck. If it is free, it will run. I pressurizedcthe 400 carb up to 15 psi with no release....needle stuck. Took apart the carb, cleaned the needle, back together it started and ran all afternoon. The 444's needle wasnt stuck ...it started and ran all afternoon. Filled the Eliason tank with gas, one pull it sputtered then ran on the third pull. This is the first time I have driven tbe Eliason since its full restoration was complete last spring.

As this was the maiden run for the Eliason I did anticipate some problems but there was more than expected. The steering was poor, the steering wheel came loose, the ground to engine wire broke (cant turn it off in an emergency!) And throttle control loosened. All these issues, especially the broken wire, contributed to the odd parking shown in the photo

The only good point about this maiden ride is now knowing that this Eliason is a powerful machine, it cruises effortlessly in the snow and that Briggs engine didnt change sound when it slammed into my Hus-skis. It turned the track till it dug through the snow, then it dug a trench in the sod and threw a pile out the back til the kill wire was reconnected!

Now that's a picture you don't see every day. Your Eliason looks like quite the machine. I have never seen one of those before. Another beautiful restoration you did. Were was that machine originally made.
Good thing the Husskis stopped you or it looks like you would have went right over the hill and directly into the shed. That wouldn't have been a good start to the season.
Bring on the snow

That is an awful way to treat a hus-ski Barrie. Were you by yourself or did you have people running for cover? Jim

Yikes Barrie
Hope the machines are not too banged up?
My first ride was with my grandson in Val des Bois and lots of snow for November. We lost some snow to rain but more snow to come.
Can't wait for our ride in Constance Bay and hope to see many of you there.
