12/13/12 Waiting for snow chat

Hi all,
Just checking in to see what's up with everyone.
It's mid December and some of us are still waiting for snow. Last weekend, we got about 4". However, Saturday we are expecting rain. What we have might be gone by then.
I've been busy in the Diablo shop all fall. I'm working on a number of Diablos for other people hoping to get them finished by year end. Also working on a number of reproduction parts to keep our sleds up and running along with putting lots of Durasurf on Hus Ski and Diablo skis. I have a Diablo 500 restoration to complete in January. Along with that, I hope to get out to a number of rides this year. I've got the restored 503 all ready to go. I'm anxious to get the motor with the rebuilt crank out in the snow to see how it holds up (or blows up

).
In a few days, I'll send out the notice for 2013 Get Together options. Watch the forum and your email and VOTE!

Winter is easing into the high country around Val Des Bois. This picture was taken last Saturday. We had a mix of snow and freezing rain this week and more forecast. There is a good base on the road now and I could have taken the Diablo in yesterday. Time to adjust the track and make the first run. I should paint the rescue sled this year, but I'm undecided on the colour. I was thinking red, but that might clash with it's cargo. I think I better go with a neutral colour like black.

If the Chalk River run is Feb.2 , probably Feb. 9 or 16. Which ever date is best for everyone. I haven't heard anything yet on the Constance Bay run date yet. If anyone has a preference, let me know. I'll post an info sheet with details and directions as soon as I can.

Latest forecast has a Colorado Low headed our way, arriving tomorrow the first day of winter. Heavy snow warning is out. The weatherman said winter is not going to tap on your door, it's probably going to kick it in. Heading into the camp on Sunday morning ,if anyone would like to join me.

What time Roy? With the snow we are getting, a good chance at trying the Hus-ski and breaking trails. I'll call you tonite.

The SNOW is HERE!!!!
Took the first Diablo rides of the season as we got about 11" of snow yesterday. These three Diablos are Steve's from down state and we went through them top to bottom. They took their maiden voyages today. Unlike Barrie's Diablo restorations, I did not loose any bogie stations along the way

If I had a $ for every boggie station a Diablo spit out during a ride I could retire.
On another more seriuos note...the last snowfall buried my 444 even with the top of the seat.

Carefull what you wish for... The Ottawa airport recorded 44cm/17.5 in. of heavy wet snow on Friday. I don't think we got quite that much in Gatineau, but lots. I went to Val Des Bois today to open the trail into the hunt camp. OUCH! They got 50+cm/ 20-21in. Further north , they got more. After 1k of pushing with one leg on level ground, I returned to the truck and took off the warm coat and pants. The next kilometer was just as tough. I called it quits at the base of the mountain before our gate. This is the provincial ATV trail. I'll wait until they break that hill and clear the trees for me. I'm older and not as tough as I used to be, but a little wiser. Here are a couple of pics. Check out a couple of video clips on youtube at... tesker 53. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
