Hus Ski 444 Cleats - Round II

Post by Go Go Diablo » Wed Dec 22, 2010 10:01 pm

Hi all,

For about a year, Mike from down in Madison has been getting us those beautiful stainless steel folded over cleats for the 444. Some of you may have used them on other models too. Unfortunately, his supplier is no longer willing to work with us to make these cleats at a reasonable price.

The good news is I'm working with a different supplier and am getting pricing on both steel and stainless steel cleats.

So here is the question - if you wanted cleats, which would you prefer?

- A set of 54 STEEL cleats for $210?
or
- A set of 54 STAINLESS STEEL cleats for $255?

To purchase them even at these prices, I would need to buy between 250 and 500 of them. So there is quite an investment. Please give me some feedback on what you would consider if you were interested in cleats.

Thanks,

Bruce

I would like to add a footnote to this design of cleat...it is the best that was ever installed on a HUS-SKi. Even if you have the "U" channel type found on some 444's, I would recommend changing to this style if you are concidering changing your cleats. This style gives the traction needed on hard crust or ice but offers much greater manoeuverability.

Guys - this is good feedback.

What I am really asking is are steel cleats good enough or is it worth the extra $45 for the stainless steel cleat. I need your opinions on whether $255 for a set of stainless cleats is too much as to a point where people will not buy them.

Your thoughts?

I think for $45 it'd be dumb not to get the stainless. I wish i woulda knew u were going to be getting more, i just hacked an old Arctic Cat track up to get some. Not what i wanted but i guess it'll work

Hi Bruce, I guess if someone is doing a set of tracks with new everything, the stainless is the way to go. I ran a set of the stainless ones last winter and they look as good as when I took them out of the box. However, I think there are guys out there (including me) with machines with tracks that just need new wood and the rubber and half of the steel cleats are re-usable. If the steel ones were available in sets of six I bet people would buy them too. I wonder if they could like make 270 pcs of each? I would buy a set or two of the steel ones.

I've done some more follow up and found out we cannot combine steel and stainless steel orders to get the quantity discounts. Small orders of steel cleats are almost as much as larger orders of stainless steel cleats.

I'm placing an order today for stainless steel cleats and should have them by the end of January. If you want to place an order, let me know and I'll get you on the list for the first batch.

Thanks all for your feedback.

Hi All,

I was emailed yesterday that the first new batch of Stainless Steel Cleats are complete. I will pick them up next week and will have them available to ship or bring to Alliston. Let me know if you need some.

Thanks,

Bruce
