The Big Red Truck 1/28/10

Hi all,

Antigo is only a few weeks away. Hope many of you can make it up (or down depending on where you live). My buddy Tom and I are working on our 502 restoration's expecting to have them ready for the fun.

The big red truck is off on another run this weekend. I'll be heading to Minnesota on Friday and attending Waconia on Saturday. Then up to Northern Minnesota where I'll be picking up some treasures along the way. Back home on Sunday. If anyone is looking for me, I will have limited or no access to email while I'm gone, but I will have my cell phone on.

Take care and I'll check in when I get back in town.

Hi all,

It's midnight and we just got in to a Super 8 up in Northern Minnesota. Spent the morning at Waconia and found a few treasures. Then traveled north where we picked up a bunch of parts tonight. Picking up a few more tomorrow and then will be on our way home. Will check in then.

We are back. We meaning my 19 year old daughter Emily took a break from a college weekend and joined me on the 1,200 mile trek up through northern Minnesota and back to Wisconsin.

On Friday, we stopped in Baldwin, Wis and dropped off a Hus Ski 444 fender for Kevin W from Cumberland. Then continued on to Bloomington, MN where we dropped off the Promo Films used for the Hus Ski / Diablo Video.

On Saturday, we spent the morning at Waconia where I picked up 444 for my buddy Rod L and a scrapper 502 for Jeff B up in Three Lakes. I also had previously arranged to pick up a disassembled 502 from Chuck and loaded that at Waconia. In regards to the swap meet, there was very little there I found exciting. I did pick up two 191R motors though for the 503 which made the trip worth while. I also talked again with Greg Spaulding about making Diablo reproduced mufflers.

About 1PM, we drove 5 hours north and caught up with Don N from Waskish and acquired some of his Diablo parts. We pulled most of them out of the snow and stacked them on the trailer. It's a good thing Don had them all in pieces as they stacked better that way. The gem of Don's parts was a brand new 502 dash that we will use in the future for molding new dashes.

On Sunday, we visited with Jim S from Gilbert. Jim let us purchase a brand new 191R that he had bought expecting to put in his 503. Wow - a brand new motor. That is really something. From there, we drove home and I'm just getting in now.

Another fun trip meeting some great people. Guys like Don and Jim are vintage enthusiasts from way back and they have the collections to show for it. As with many of us, they love to share their passion and I was glad to see what they had. Thanks all who made the trip a great run.
