Hi all,

Was digging around through some Hus Ski parts this afternoon and noticed the brake caliper on a 444 looks darn similar to a brake caliper on a Diablo. So I pulled out a Diablo brake caliper and I'll be darned, they sure look the same size and design.

Anybody else notice this or can you confirm they are the same?

Other than that, not much new going on. Spent the day at the shop working on Yamaha's (yes, even the newer sleds need a little tender loving care on occasion). Met a new friend, Steve B from Larsen, Wisconsin who is thinking of buying a Diablo and there are several around to chose from (on the site from others and at my shop). Steve has been on the site quite often lately and noticed how much fun and knowledge there is on the forum. Thanks all for making that happen.

Hi all. It was a good day for a ride so out I go with the 500. Now you probably are thinking something is bound to happen and you are right. I was driving a uni-traction Diablo. As you guessed, this does not go very well. Just before venturing into the "back forty", I stopped on the trail to check that I had not lost any boggie stations. None had fallen off. I squeezed the throttle hard and the snow flew, tracks spinning (so I thought) and the tractor unit tilted to the left.....the right side wasn't turning. Damned chaincase!!!! but it wasn't the chaincase , the key which engages the sprocket to the axel had come out. I believe this to be a rare occurance. Looking back over my trail, I found the key, aligned the slots and inserted it. When I got back home I rotated the "C" clip to prevent this from happening agian. YIKES!!!

At least when they are old and a little rusty from sitting around, they dont fall apart? I was addressing the brakes on my 200-A and 444 recently too. Yeah, they are running good when you have to think about brakes! The calipers are a little different but are probobly interchangeable. I was looking around online and found similar parts under mini bike brakes or go cart brakes. Cables, pucks (pads), calipers,brake bands.

The 444 operators manual lists the brake as an "H & H Model 200ME". My 2007 Dennis Kirk catalog has HH200 Series brake calipers for $24.95. In the picture, they look the same although there might be some slight differences. It says that these brakes were used on many different types of snowmobiles. They have replacement pads also. They list thin and thick pads. I'm pretty sure a 444 uses the thick ones.

Frank - I looked around on the Dennis Kirk website but could not find those brake pads. You seem to have a better head on your shoulders than I when it comes to finding this stuff. Could you see if brake discs are available for that 444 cause I think they will also fit the Diablo!

I couldn't find it on Dennis Kirks website either. You could call them and see if these part #s are still available: 19-32 for thick organic pads, this is (1) 5/16" thick and (1) 1/2" thick; 19-45 is the complete caliper assembly. Manufacturers Supply also has them listed, here is a link to the page http://www.mfgsupply.com/UniversalSnowB ... d=9tKwm4u2 . There catalog is better than their website, in the catalog that I have it gives the dimensions of the pads, the website doesn't. Part# 05-115 is for the thick pads. I have a Diablo caliper and it looks the same as the 444 caliper, I also have a couple of calipers that are the same from unknown brands of conventional style snowmobiles from the late 60's or early 70's. I've seen these same calipers on some machines where they squeeze a flange on the driven clutch and don't even have a brake rotor.

It makes all kinds of sence that the 444 and Diablo caliper are the same item since both the 444 and the Diablos were made by the same company within the same year.
