I have been working on a 444 as a driver for this winter. This is a machine I picked up last summer which hasn't run for over five years. I replaced the carb kit and repaired the clutch and it went but kept stopping. I noticed air bubbles coming from the carb when the engine stopped. I fooled around with settings and just about dismantled the carb again when I found that the gas tank valve was closed. HHMMMM!!! on the up side ....this machine really wants to go since it was able to suck gas through the valve until too much vacuum was in the line to allow it to run. There is one other problem..no chain cover. Snow is thrown all over the engine and certainly right down the carb. The mixture of snow, air and gas is good but I'll probably eliminate the snow portion. After letting the machine rest for an hour, I went to start it.......JLO recoil problem in the cold!!!!!!! The recoil worked fine in the warmth of my shop.. I'll have to read those JLO recoil rebuild notes on Bruces site.
