Noisy Motor

Post by Rock » Sun Nov 30, 2008 3:18 pm

Hi all

 This morning wen't to start me 444 and suddenly motor was making loud noize. So then I stop the motor re-started and again a loud noize. Open the hood to check what was the noise and I believe their's a bolt that fell in the carb. My next step was to take that motor out and open it up.Those bolts are from the Carb cover that was suppose to be on it but misplace the cover and just put the bolts on back where they belong. I guess with the vibration of the motor the bolts came loose and one fell in the carb.

The rings looks good but the piston looks damage. A small piece of metal fell when i took the head off. The piston is damage right at the bottom .

So my question is: Should i put the motor back together and see what will happen so try and get a new piston.
Would it be possible that the bolts came loose with the vibration and fell into the carb?
If i have to change the piston can anybody know where i could find one?

Me and my luck

Yesterday wen't to go for a ride with my 500 at my brothers place where it was storage. 2 pulls and it starts but not for long. Check the gas tank empty I remember that my brother had told that he had fill the gas tank. So now i open the hood and look at the gas tank and their it was a leaking gas tank on the lower left side. The gas wen't all over the body and now the paint is coming right off. Now i need to repair the tank and also the paint.

This is a very good way to start the winter. I'll be glad when my 200a arrives

I've been saying HUS-SKI for years!!!!!!!!! ha ha I had the same bolts for the carb cover on my 400 fall into the cylinder but those bolts are much smaller and did no damage, ( the piston actually cut one in half as it entered through the intake hole ), I leave the cover off so I can squirt some gas in the carb for the first start. This saves an extra few pulls in the recoil and we all know what rebuilding one of those is about.

Hi all

Good news. The piston received little damage and 1 ring was stuck on the piston. I brought the engine at my friends place and he was able to fix the ring that was stuck. Brought it home yesterday install the engine and now i'm riding the old machine again. I guess i was very lucky. My friend charge me a case of beer. So that's not bad
