Here are what are probably the last photos for this thread. It has been a battle at times but the end product is as original as it was in 1963-4. I hope you all have enjoyed the ride as well as I have.

Nice job Barrie, I've been watching this thread from the start, along with all of the other threads too. I've enjoyed them all.

You are a true craftsman my friend. I am always astonished at what you offer to this forum and this thread is a testament to your knowledge.

Yikes!! With that sort of announcement there may be some cancellations for the banquet.
This restoration was also done with the aid of this site. When it was suggested to see a complete JLO rebuild, I knew I could take it apart but the back together correctly part was going to be done with contacts from this site. There are many guys out there who know more about these machines than me. My main go to guys were snowcat Pete, Ken M. and Luc. To them I thank them very much.

Excellent job Barrie. Can't wait to see it in the Port. Can I expect you to bring along a red one too? After all, it is a Diablo reunion and maybe it's time for us to see you ride a Diablo. Get your cameras ready folks, just in case.

I was trying to understand how to set the flywheel timing. Then I got to looking at the flywheel in the L252L that I have, and both key slots are marked with an arrow for rotation. The arrow would be covered by the washer when installed, and is about 10mm or 3/8 inch from each slot. The cam also has arrows in each slot. This should make my job easier.

Re: 400 restoration project
My 400 has had a serious set back for its readiness for Port Washington. It had begun to have starting issues and increased revs. My fear of a leaking seal has to be confirmed when the revs went to 5000. As muphy' s law goes, the pto seal seemed good so I pulled all the parts on the mag side to discover an oil leak at the bearing seal. This seal is the problem.

Here was the blown gasket that ended up being the problem! There must have been an air leak at this spot but it wasn't known until the gasket blew out.

Beautiful job on this restoration. There is so much information here. Been learning about these recoils as mine is backwards. Also these JLOs with there L and R rotation. Looks like I have a job ahead of me. Your details on these machines are amazing.
