Back from Antigo

Just got back from the gathering at Antigo. Other than a little disappointment that the 503 still lies dormant it was a nice day. Bruce worked feverishly to get it running but no such luck. So its back home and the engine has to come out. More bonding time I guess.

Bruce gave us a sneak peak of the Huski/Diablo DVD at the hotel. It is done very well and was a blast watching. Everyone needs a copy of this.

I met a number of nice people. Dr. Randy and Bob from Ohio were extremely gracious and also offered help to resurrect the 503. Friday afternoon Randy let me drive his 502 which helped lift my spirits. His 502 runs very well. He tells me the 503 is even faster. Today Bruce let my drive his 503. Bruce must have recognized my pending depression and felt a little 503 action would help. He was right.

Randy, Bob and I went out for supper Friday night and had a great time. Randy's experience with the Diablo's goes back 40 years and it was fun talking to someone who drove them when they were in production. Bob really knows the mechanical stuff.

They tell me that they too have experienced the joy of driving a few hundred miles only to have a machine or two fail to launch. I guess its just part of the antique/vintage business. Meeting these two gentlemen was indeed a pleasure and I look forward to next year. Thanks guys.

I must admit though some disappointment with the Wisconsin DNR. We were told that we had to have the Wiscsonin trail sticker and be registered in order to use the public trail system. Minnesota has a nice program for sleds over 25 years old. They issue a collector permit for which is there is no fee. Wisconsin needs to do something similiar.
