Another great run in Chalk River this year. Here are a couple of pictures.

Thanks for the nice pics, it looks like it was a good time, same goes for the Constance Bay pics in the other thread. Is that Justin's Honda powered Sno Traveler on the right side of the 2nd picture?

Yes it is Justin's machine however it did not fare too well . Justin's name will be forever enshrined in the Chalk River Hall of fame as he was the recipitent of the "Freddie Bachelor Award" .

Oh, what happened?

The last time I saw Justin, he had just gone out of sight around a corner riding with one broken ski and there was a big cloud of blue smoke. The details are sketchy after that. The story is probably best told by a Hus-ski guy with first hand knowledge. Barrie.......

Yeah, I had the fastest hus-ski of the day!! (My traveller in the cutter being towed behind a 2003 skidoo tundra!) Yeah Minor Glitch that left me stranded! It was probably a good thing my machine broke when it did because I was having a hard enuff time stayin on the ski-seater!! The Forty Creek was flowing a little too good that day!! So after duck taping my ski together and continuing the ride I started to smell burnt belt so I stoped to cut the duck tape off thinking the drag was unbareable, I didnt even get to full throttle and shreaded my belt, no big deal so I threw another one on and away I went. Problem being I didnt notice that the heads of the rivets on the inner sheave on the secondary were working there way loose then eventually sheaved off that left my inner sheave flopping around on the shaft, (Comet/Hoffco heard about it come Monday) Cheap fix, come Sunday I set the seconday up in my mill, spotted the rivets out, indicated the sheeve to the hub, then drilled and tapped it to 1/4-28 and added High grade bolts with nylon locking nuts to the back face. Stronger than new, If I would of known Our where abouts in the forestry at the time I probably would have just phoned home and had someone bring me my other clutches since "VICE GRIP Larry" Was no where to be found !! There was alot of competition for the Freddie bachelor award that weekend (Eh Randy!) but my "Drive It like a Rental" attitude got the best of me that weekend !! But those who know me would definetely understand !!

Blue smoke...we were lucky the Canadian army didn't hit us with a water bomber thinking there was a forest fire. Do we need to get into the details of towing said machine 8 km in the wrong direction or about two of the three remaining machines either running out of gas or stopping for unkown reasons in the hinterland of our Canadian forest? I think it better to discuss the winner of the spark plug award....a Diablo. The pull cord award went to Dan Hickey on a model 400 HUS-SKI. Dan is an inexperienced HUS-SKI rider and exhibited unparalleled patience when tryng to start his machine in the dark, after a brief "rest" time on the final trip. That "rest" stop may need more explanation but we will save that for another day. The broken cleat award went to a model 600 HUS-SKI where the owner had not fixed his cleat from the previous year. This award may be annually his. Food was great, company fantastic, weather perfect and a good time had by all.

How many miles is this run?

Not sure on the distance. I'm guessing 25-30 miles. Of course some of us went further than others. I had that little plug problem and missed the afternoon run. But getting my name on one of those honored hus-ski trophies made up for it. I even caught the disabled diablo on video. Just finished up a DVD of the run. I find the video quality drops off when it's burned to disc, but it's fun to watch. I'll send out some copies soon.

My guess is over 35 miles. The day is planned to have two short trips and one longer ride at the end of the day but estimating how long or short a ride may be is like picking winning numbers in the POWERBALL lottery. Some machines don't make it across the lake on the first run while others extend the ride by "malfunctioning" on the trail. This is all part of the enjoyment of these rides.
