Someone approached me about where to find a new gas tank for a 444. At some point on this forum, I thought I remember Peter talking about a Gravely tank or other that was darn close to a Hus Ski 444 tank. I've searched the forum and found nothing.
Can some of you help refresh my memory on that subject and help this fella find a tank for his 444?
Thanks all,
Bruce

Re: Hus Ski 444 Gas Tanks
Does anyone have the dimensions of a stock 444 gas tank ? My tank was trashed out 30 years ago and I have been using a tank out of a Garden tractor in it since . It is to small and the straps had to be shimmed to hold it in tight . If I had the measurements for the correct tank I may be able to find something that will fit better .
Thanks for all the help ,
Marty

Re: Hus Ski 444 Gas Tanks
Peter sent me some information about a possible replacement. This is what he found.
The gas tank was from a Gravely professional 2WD tractor. A 985 series. There are two basic sizes. Small capacity and large capacity and for a Hus Ski – you would definitely need the small capacity tank. The original Gravely tank was a stamped steel – virtually identical to a 444 tank only a smaller capacity than the 444 as well. But now it is a welded style tank but of the same capacity as the original Gravely tank. They didn’t know how much longer they would continue to produce this tank as this tractor has been out of production for 10 years now.
The gas tank part # is 08575100. It is $281.75 CDN and my dealer has two in stock so still available from Gravely dealers at this time.
The mounting straps similar to a Hus ski strap is Part # 08581800. They are $33.10 CDN each also still available.
Some other fuel related parts :
Replacement gas cap for older Hus skis is Napa Part # 7-04915
Fuel shut off valve is Napa part # 7-02351
Another source for shut off valves from an aftermarket company called STENS and that part # is 120-279. I prefer this one over the Napa as it has a larger filter screen on it.

Re: Hus Ski 444 Gas Tanks
Mark D from Kaukauna informed me that Ariens supplies this same tank. Their part number is 08575100/1. I don't think it is a coincidence that it is almost the same part number as the Gravely tank as I presume both Ariens and Gravely purchase this tank from a supplier.

Bruce its not a coincidence ! I believe Ariens is the parent Co of Gravely. I also think they own the Stens after market supplier.
have you had any feedback from any one that has tried this tank ?

Re: Hus Ski 444 Gas Tanks
I have been meaning to post this for some time now. It is just an idea for a inexpensive spare gas cap for a Hus-ski 444 or 600. It is basically a modified cap off a utility can. And it is very easy to modify.

I removed the brush inside the can and gave it a good cleaning.

Then I drill a vent hole in the top of the cap, then I cut out a cork gasket and punch a vent hole in the gasket.

And that's all there is to it. It's just that easy. Now you have a spare gas cap for your gas tank.

This post has got a ton of views over the years. I hope this adds to it's popularity.
I found that the original low profile caps on the 444 are a Briggs and Stratton and by searching for this 69221 part number on ebay, you can usually find what you need.
