148cc model 200 help

Post by srxyamiman » Fri Jan 13, 2012 11:10 am

Does anyone know the thread on the end of the crank? I read the post about the longer clutch retainer bolt to late and stripped the darn thing.

Now i am struggling to remove the stationary sheave to access the thread and clean it up. Any hints tricks to getting this off?

Also, i am in need of a "drive sproket" the one off the back of the secondary. Mine has two broken teeth. Does anyone have a spare, or know what would cross over?

There are 2 types of clutches used on the 148cc JLO. 1 is all steel, the other has an aluminum outer sheave and cover. The only kind that I have taken off is the all steel kind and what I did was tap the hole to I think 7/8" coarse thread. It then was removed like a normal snowmobile clutch with a bolt used as a puller and a short piece of round stock as a spacer. Just check the I.D. of the hole and see if this is what size you would drill a hole for a 7/8" tap. As far as the aluminum ones go, I'd think they would be the same but I'm not sure. Barrie or Jeff C would probably know more about the aluminum ones.

Now that I'm done plowing and shoveling, I went out in the garage and checked on the thread size for you. It is 12mmx1.5mm thread pitch.

Thanks guy's,

Got it all fixed up.. Built a puller that clamps to OD of the shive. machined it tight and split it. then pushed on end of crank and had somthing to grab with a jaw puller.

Gut the threads fixed up, machined a new bolt, Built up secondary shaft with "devcon". built custom bushing for movable secondary and pressed in oillite bushings. Replaced primary bushing (alum pc belt rides on) built a washer to fit over splines on primary, (snap ring groove was not ideal) and it will now be held on like traditional clutch by bolt.

Should be good to go. Just need better drive gear.. Could cut on water jet if need be but would take alot of attempts to get internal spline correct.

I would think that you would probably be able to sell a few of these sprockets if you can get that spline cutting figured out. Is it possible to scan the splines to get an accurate reading?

That would work the best.

The plan "b" would be build a secondary shaft that would execpt a common Honda mini bike sprocket on that end. that would give a person a few cheap gearing options.

Does your sprocket have good enough splines to scan? If you make a sprocket or try to adapt a different one, I would suggest not going any bigger than the most common ones which are 9 teeth. These machines don't have a lot of power and I don't think they would work very good with higher gears.

Yes splines on sprocket are great.
