Not getting gas to carb on 444
Hi guys, I am looking for the hl186a intake cover if anyone has one for sale or knows of a supplier. I also only have a screen over the mouth of the carburetor.
Thanks
Thanks

An original is probably not avaiable but you can make one from any flat metal. It sits off the carb by 3/8".

This is a re-creation of an original. The unpainted one is an original and the painted one is the re-creation. If you are interested in one, please PM me.
I think someone else here on the forum is also looking for one. I never understand why this part always goes missing?? hmmmm.....

Re: Not getting gas to carb on 444
Hey, Nice job on the carb cover! I own and ride both Hus-Skis and Diablos and have gone through several succesful carb rebuilds. When starting with a fresh, dry carb, I pull the fuel line off the carb and get all the air out of line by lowering it below tank level into a small container to catch fuel, and put my finger ober the end, bring it up next to carb inlet, and quickly press it onto carb. then close choke and make sure choke plate is completely sealing. then hold throttle half open and pull starter. I usually just take the hood off when getting one running for the first time.you should see the fuel pulsing in the line.you may have to do this a few times until fuel gets all through carb passages. I have a good running Hirth with the HR carb, and one day, It broke through crust of ice and deep wet snow underneath and had a backfire due to getting stuck and completely packing snow in the whole undercarriage . Thankfully it was close to home! What happend was , the nozzle check valve got blown up when it backfired and the little nylon ball got stuck. I tried first to fix by removing the high speed mixture screw (H) and idle mixture screw (L) and blowing compressed air in those openings to try to blast out any sediment that may have clogged the tiny fuel holes that are in the ventury. This did not work, so carb came off and onto the bench. It is rare to have to remove the welch plugs on a standard carb rebuild. not sure if that has been done. It is pretty easy to do. The check valve is accessable only by removing the welch plug on the high speed part. the second welch plug covers the two hole for the low speed.

The initial adjustments are: first close both idle and high speed screws gently. do not force into seats. open high speed screw 1 1/4 turns. open idle screw 3/4 turn. back off throttle screw until it is just contacting lever, then turn in 2 full turns to open throttle shutter slightly.

Any success starting your machine?
Re: Not getting gas to carb on 444
I am also having a similar problem with my JLO, it is a HL186A carb.. I have just rebuilt the carb except replacing needle and seat and replaced fuel tank drain valve, removed and flush tank and replace fuel lines. I did clean out the impulse port as well. My problem is an air pocket keeps developing int the fuel line near the carburetor and I need to add gas manually to get it to start as the choke is not pulling the fuel, I will check my choke to see it it is completely closing. But my frustration is the air in the fuel line.
Once started it will run on its own and air bubble works its was out after I run machine around the yard.

Thanks

Re: Not getting gas to carb on 444
I can speak for a Tillotson HR in a Diablo. I had a Diablo that started hard hard hard no matter what I did. I pulled and pulled and finally it would start. It had the choke plate shown on the right. At some point, I realized I should have a choke plate that has no hole in it. I replaced it with a choke plate like that shown on the left and problem solved.
Also, I always start a Diablo with full choke and full throttle. Without doing that, the carb does not pull fuel up the fuel line very well. Once the motor fires, I push in the choke and then continue with full throttle till it starts (typically just a couple of pulls after it fires with the choke closed). The HR and HL carbs use the same diaphragm, so maybe you can apply these thoughts.

Too many Diablos and parts to count.
