Hus-Ski 400 production
We were wondering if anyone knew why the 400 model was only made for such a short period of time. Any estimates as to how many were made?

Re: Hus-Ski 400 production
I can only speculate on why the 400 was discontinued for a year only to return as the 444 a year later but I speculate that HUS-SKI was feeling pressure to convert to a single track drive and use a fiberglass body on their machines since all other manufacturers were heading in this direction. The model 600 filled both these criteria and was powered by the same engine as the 400. They kept making the 200-A as a cheaper and less powerful alternative. When the 600 turned out to be a design disaster, they returned to the machine they knew how to build and came back with the 444 in 1965-6. I have been collecting serial numbers from anyone who will share them with me. Since HUS-SKI serial numbers are serquential within a model type, the highest serial number tells how many machines were made. To date, the highest serial number I have for the 400 is 40415 therefore I know that at least 415 machines were built. I believe that the 400 is the second rarest of the HUS-SKI models with fewer than 750 ever made. I can only urge other owners of 400's to share their serial number with me to help determine the total number built.

As far as I know, 400 serial numbers were only on the dash in the small clear part of the decal, bottom left. It was only the model 444 which used the embossed plastic tab to indicate serial numbers.
