600 Hus Ski front handles ????

Post by Go Go Diablo » Wed Nov 25, 2009 10:39 pm

Hi all,

My buddy Rod is restoring a 600 and noticed that some have the tubular handle that goes around the front of the machine and some do not. Some are black and he thought he saw one that was chrome.

Can some of you share some insight into the bar and tell us what is original. If they came with the 600, what finish were they originally, how were they constructed and how were they mounted? Of course, pictures would be great too.

Thanks all,

Bruce

I have 2 600s, both of them had a tubular chrome grab handle that extended down the sides. The chrome was pretty cheap on them!

Thanks Blackdot.

Could you snap some pictures of their construction and how they attach to the frame? You can post them here or send them to me at bschoblaska@new.rr.com

Thanks,

Chrome is correct for the double track but as far as I can see from my single tracks, there was no lift handle on them. I'm sure the HUS-SKI engineers soon discovered the need for a secure lift handle after they plunged one of those single tracks into deep snow and it fell over on its side like a shot cow and had no more likelyness of righting itself than a turtle on its back!!!

Could it be possible that the 600 we are working on was originally a single track and converted to a twin? It did not have a handle and there is no evidence it ever had a handle which is why we are asking.

Bruce, I believe that all the 600 series were originally single track sleds, but most of them were converted after customer complaints...My restored 600 is in storage where I can't easily get any pictures without moving a bunch of other peoples boats out! I can get pictures next summer if you still need them by then. Sorry I can't help sooner.Doug

The conversion of the single track to a double track involved throwing away the single track base unit. The absence of your lift handle is not related to whether or not it was originally a single track.

Bruce, this is what the base of the single track looks like. This one is for sale should someone want to switch his 600 to single track?

The basic form is correct but there are several severe modifications on that base. The upper square tubing rails are not original nor is the half moon cover on the chain side of the front end. I'll dig out my NOS base and send photo if my camera will work. It died a few weeks ago.
