Diablo 503 Restoration - Back from the Paint Shop

I just got back from the painters with the red pieces that make up the best looking vintage snowmobile ever built. The painter's attention to detail is incredible. We weren't sure at first whether we had the right color as we were just a little on the orange side of red. He took another shot with a different color and I think he really nailed it. I never saw a new Diablo up close and of course it would have been 40 years ago so I can't be certain how they are supposed to look. But this is how mine looks and I couldn't be more pleased.

The plastic nose cone is not in the best of shape but will have to suffice for this year along with the bumper. The bumper cleaned up pretty well with some steel wool but I will get one of Bruce's re-chromed ones this fall.

I plan to start reassembling tomorrow and depending if we ride our non Diablos should make some good progress by the end of the weekend. I will post some pictures of the reassembly. The engine is not going to be painted until later this year. My goal is to get it to look like the 503 that Mike N. restored. His attention to detail is quite impressive as well so I doubt mine will be as good.

Barring some setbacks it should be ready to go for our get together at Antigo next month.
