I have a friend who is rebuilding his 444 with new skins. He is a sheet metal guy and I asked him to take some pictures and we will see how it goes. If he has success, he said he would make more. Should know within the week.

Hi all,

I have someone here locally that has also made some new fender skirts for his 444. He believes the same skirts size wise will fit other Hus Ski models too, but not sure which. He has made up a few extras without the holes so the skirts can be used on other models.

Could anyone out there verify which skirts (less the hole locations) are universal between which models?

If you are interested in a skirt around my neck of the woods (Wisconsin), shoot me an email at bschoblaska@new.rr.com

Models 200, 200-A,400 and 444 all have skirts which are 29" wide and will all be the same length since the traction unit has not changed. Hole location I cannot vouch for as I have never had any off to compare. We must remember that the 200, 200-A and 400 had two piece skirts. I am positive that cutting the front off a 444 skirt would give the same result as making two pieces for these models. Only the Snow Traveller had a 25" wide skirt. Since there are so few of these in existance, making this size , the parts would remain on the shelf for decades.

Here are a couple more pics of the skirts. I need to get some more details about the gauge and bending techniques, but sounds like Rod can make us some more if they are wanted. $125 uncut (should fit the models Barrie mentions above), or if you have a 444 and want the cut-outs made for you, $150. In the future, if Rod can get a template of the 200, 200A or 400, he could make those cut-outs too.

What Rod had done to his 444 (shown in a previous picture) is cut the bottom of the chassis from the top of the chassis. Insert the new skin, then weld the chassis halves back together. Then you have a skirt that is one complete piece like the original 444. Like Barrie says, the skirts for the other models are cut.

Ah ha!! I knew it was only a matter of time. Just wait until you drive it. Once you've had yellow, you never go back.

Just a little clarification about the gauge of metal these fenders are made of. I thought I heard somewhere that the original Hus Ski fenders were made from 19 gauge steel. I may have stated somewhere that the new fenders were made from 18 gauge which would be heavier. In fact they are made from 20 gauge because the pipe seam benders that creates the edge beam can only handle 20 gauge or lighter.

To put these skins on, Rod recommends to use a wire welder and as little heat as possible. Small beads or tacs and use wet rags around welds to keep the heat from penetrating outward. With care, the skins can be installed with little or no warping.

Hope that helps. Rod is making up some more skins if anyone is interested.
