Hi all. Myself and my mom's boyfriend have been talking about buillding a hus-ski from nothing really. I think it would be good to have a set of drive wheels and idler's then build to suit. The size of the machine is perfect so I don't belive it would be much bigger. We were talking of putting a four stoke engine (Honda 10 hp), to eliminate the smell of the 2 stoke mixture. This would also make it quieter and be alot smoother. It would have a heck of a hood on it to cover up the engine. The 10 hp honda is a fare size. It would be great to get some input on this. Also I will be in need of the Drive wheels and idler's, from a scrcp machine of course. Thanks Jeff

We would use the same style of track, Wooden/ steel cleats. May use the steel cleats that were made for artic cats. I feel that will offer greater durability to the wooded cleats.

What type of throttle and brake lever will you use?

Thats been a puzzle to this point, but Iam sure I will run accross handles that will do the job when the time comes. I will have to have a better eye for that stuff at the flea market in the fall. I could use a throttle handle for the machine I got now as it is patched together. What you think of the whole 4 stroke engine idea? thanks Jeff

Four stroke is the only way to go. I don't think 2 stroke are even available. One problem with the four stroke is they blow the exhaust in your face. A little longer exhaust pipe facing down will solve the problem

How will you deal with the icing up problem of the four stroke carburator?

The 4 stroke will start better than the 2 stroke when it is real cold too. I would use Salsbury clutches. would have to be for right rpm for 4 stroke- maybe co-cart or golf cart application?

The Salsbury series 500 clutch is still made by the Hoffco company which also owns the Comet name. The clutch can be modified for certain applications simply by changing the spring strength or counterweight weight.
