Another restore

Post by huuksnatch » Fri Apr 04, 2014 12:07 pm

Hey guys, found another 444 to save. Couple questions about it tho. As you can see its def a 444 but this has 400 parts in spots. The serial # 650441 is on the handle bars so im wondering if they were maybe using 400 parts on the earlier 444's? The carb is a 167a which i thought was used on the 148 motors? The handle bars look like they are straight but have been modified in the past so im not positive. The jack shaft is like one on a 200a. The rear wheels dont bolt on like 444's the wheels actually have bearing in them like 200a's. Anyone else ever come across this kind of stuff? This thing is a wreck but i will post a pic when its done.

The jack shaft could have been changed. Is there other evidence like brake calliper bracket or those two pillows for the brake cable? I imagine the handle bars were bent down. I do believe that the 444 was made from left over parts especially from the 600's. The idlers could be from a 200 but not the axel because the 444 has a 5" belt on the inside therefore must have a longer axel.
