503 Restoration

Post by tweivoda » Sun Mar 07, 2010 7:52 pm

In light of the melting snow and the need to uplift our spirits I thought it would be good time to share some pictures of the 503 after restoration. I've still got the ignition switch issue to resolve but otherwise I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.

A special thanks to Mike Niebuhr. Mike sent me a cd that included dozens of pictures of his beginning to end 503 restoration. It was extremely helpful in putting everything back together.

An of course there is the Diablo Rouge king of kings, Bruce Schoblaska. Not only did he supply me with the necessary parts but it was his almost daily emails and phone calls made the project possible. I purchased 503 in February of 2009 and had just discovered this website. Without the website and everyones help the Diablo would probably be in pieces wating for another buyer.

If we get a March snowstorm I will probably take it for one more short ride then pack it away. I plan on showing it at the SE Minnesota grass drags and swap meet in early October. They have a nice antique/vintage display each year. I've yet to see a Diablo there yet and it would be nice to have a Hus Ski to join me.

I saw Terry's sled at Antigo and although it never left the trailer, I could see what a fantastic job Terry did on this unit.

Terry - This was your first restoration wasn't it? Wow, if so, you sure spanked the heck out of my first restoration efforts.
