Worn Crank Shaft Seal Surfaces

Hi all,

Been working on a motor for a 500 restoration and wanted to share a new repair that worked well.

This motor must have seen some moisture. When I pulled it apart, it had a good rod bearing but the crank bearings and where the seals contact the shafts were very poor. Replacing the bearings is easy, but what to do about the scored seal surfaces?

As you can see, the surfaces are in poor shape. Almost like they hit the grinder.

A SKF Speedi Sleeve is the answer. Just measure your shaft and get the appropriate size. Then press or softly hammer it on the shaft.

Wala. Just like that, you have a brand new seal surface. If you cannot find these sleeves locally, I have them for the 54R motor for $28.
