You well know that seeing that Diablo bogged down in snow makes me think of one thing...how much I enjoyed driving my HUS-SKI all over the farm on the same depth of snow. Even prepared the sliding hill for the grand children.

Hus-skis are tops in deep snow. I'm hoping a couple of you will break the Africa Lake trail for us this year. I'll tag along behind you with all the tools you will need.

Hi All, we are still waiting for some ridable snow here, but may have a foot within the next 24 hours and cold weather to follow. Barrie, what happened there? looks like the windshield got fogged up. Oh, my pick for a trailbreaker in deep, wet snow is either a 200-A stock or modified or a 400. preferrably with a driver under 140 pounds.or of course a 200 HP+ new machine! Brrrrraaaapppp! Just my 2 cents; :geek:

Forensic analysis of the photograph shows that the unknown HUS-SKI driver was driving at full speed when suddenly had to do some very skillful evasive manouvers to avoid a moose standing in the center of the trail. We all know that there are two very dangerous things to encounter on a snowmobile trail in winter 1- a moose and 2- a Diablo driver with a camera.

Brian and I were out today breaking trail for the local x-country ski club. The photos show a winter wonderland.

Wow, That is some beautiful country up there. Seriously. I want to move to Canada please. A moose? Hmmmm :) Well, we have less than a foot of snow here, it cracks me up to watch the local news these days and they make such a big deal about what I consider an average snow storm. Have to work this week, but it is going to get pretty cold after tomorrow, so will at least put the 444 and 200-A in snow and yard drive... perhaps more. :D

We got another 8" last week, but I made it into the camp on Sunday. The ATV club had cleared the big hill, with it's downed trees and 30" or so of new snow. The snow on the rest of the trail had settled enough to let me ride in without any trouble. I don't remember ever seeing the trees so weighted down with snow. I took a lot of pictures. Here are a few.

I did some research today in the 24" of snow we now have. This is snow without crusts..you go right to the bottom when you step into it. My test was which machine would do best for trail breaking...200-A, 400, 444 or Diablo 502. Starting with the 8 hp 200-A I trailblazed through a treed trail where snow density changes and through open field. The small engine took me everywhete. Hills were tougher but the machine was easy to manoeuvre. It went slow but did the job. The 400 handled similarly but has significant more power. At lower speed the tractor would tilt upwards and plod through the snow. However if you pulled to full throttle it would climb to level and ride not as deep. The 444 would also go anywhere as long as the clutch was kept in the low range. Once it shifted to high speed balance was an issue. The Diablo test ride has been reserved for another day as it would not start.
