time to start skiing

Postby Barrie2777 » Wed Apr 08, 2015 7:08 pm

it is spring and with the snow going it is time to think about making skiis. I have continued the process which started last October when I bought a pile of maple. It is dry enough to bend now. When complete, I will have 30 pairs of HUS-SKI and DIABLO SKIIS ready for next year's snow. If anyone would like to reserve set now just send me a PM.

I have bent all these pieces for HUS-SKI skiis. Today I started to bend parts for Diablo skiis. I have never bent so many parts at one time.

Today was a great day because the last piece of this seemingly endless pile of ski parts, was bent!!! I can now take a breather for about three months befor the next stage begins.

Steady as she goes.... 15 pr of skiis are made. Sorry guys but all diablo skiis are sold. Just a reminder that these skiis get a big discount for those sold to the US because of the difference in the dollar.

Sanding the inside curve of the skiis is a bit tricky with a flat bottomed belt sander so I do mine over the drums of my drum sander. The front drum is a coarse grit while the back one is fine grit. The bottom of the curve is done with a flat bottomed hand held sander.

After the two sides are sanded smooth, the ski tip is cut with a bandsaw so the cross-ply veneer can be laminated into the ski tip

These are looking a lot more like HUS-SKI skis when the tips are cut in the round shape. Just the sanding remains to be done.
