My guess is that a properly equipped shop to repair the recoil would be billing for nearly two hour of work.

The drum has a copper or brass bushing which rubs on the aluminum post of the recoil housing. The rope drum is usually very good and not in need of repair.

Toady I took one of my recoils to the local machine shop to have the repair done....well here is the story....apparently aluminum is a porous metal and all the oil which has been applied for the last fifty years, has been absorbed into the aluminum. Before any build up can be done, the aluminum must be cleaned which they estimated at 3 hours of work..YIKES!!!! at $78/hr... oH MY GOODNESS!!!! (that is not exactly what I was thinking) I decided to buy some aluminum tubing which has a smaller inside diameter than the remaining hub post. I will machine down the outside of the hub post then machine the inside of the aluminum tubing to fit tight, then machine the outside of the aluminum tubing to equal the original diameter of the hub post. This should be as good as new....maybe another thirty years of use.

Not fixed yet. I'm making cogs for those Diablo drivers and predrilling belting for HUS-SKI owners. Either winter is coming or there is a big show coming up???
