63 Hus-Ski 200

Post by chocolatecoco » Sun Feb 21, 2010 8:05 pm

I have found a Hus-Ski but I think it is a total basket case. I know it would take a lot of work, if it would even be possible to restore. Can anyone give me their opinion on trying to restore this - is it worth it? -- is there people who can help with rebuiding some of the things ( motor, suspension) if parts where sent to them?
He said it is a 63 Bolens Hus Ski 200 snowmobile. It has a JLO 148cc engine. Does not run and he thinks the motor is seized.
Thanks for any help.

hi, If you got the finances , rebuild it!! There is 2 ways of doing it, one is getting usable so you can drive it or restore to 100% then you wont want to use it . The engine probably is not as bad [siezed] as you would think but if you cant work on this yourself it may run into $$. I did a 444 that the engine was not siezed[new tracks, seat, all brgs, sliders, paint, decals, etc.] and ran about $2000.00 parts and labour. No, i am not looking for a job, just trying to help give you some ideas.

duke - thanks for the reply. So getting parts for it is not too big of a problem?
I wish I had some other opinions of this, before I would get in too deep.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE ONE OF THESE AND WANT TO ATTACK IT YOURSELF. I WOULD START BY TAKING PICTURES AT ALL ANGLES OR RECORD VIDEO YOUR DISASSEMBLY. WE MADE A SANDBLAST CABINET 4FT WIDE X 8FT LONG 7 FEET HIGH WITH TOP HALF HINGING OPEN . WE CAN SIT ANY PIECE INCLUDING THE SLED INSIDE ON THE GRATE AND BLAST EVERYTHING TO WHITE METAL BLAST INCLUDING THE ENGINE & COMPONENTS BE CARFULL TO BLOCK OFF ANY PLACE THE SAND, WALNUT SHELL, GLASS BEADS, CAN DAMAGE. THIS HAS CUT THE BIGGEST PART OF RESORATION OUT AND GIVES YOU A GREATCLEAN RUST FREE BASE TO WELD BROKEN AREAS AND A CLEAN PLACE TO START FINISHING. RON

I have three 200A parts machines and can help you get what you need. I also have new Skis, A set of used and a set of new tracks we just put together. Also new black seat with back pad, can get a red one done in one week. I am located in upstate New York if this will help you.

Glad to see so many other sfeel like me...yes, restore it , by all means. They are mechanically very simple and all of us will try to answer your many questions. The worst thing about taking it apart is not knowing where to hit it!!! and how hard. We can guide you though all that. Your machine looks to be extremely complete. This puts you in a very good position. You will need a few bearings and a seat but little else.
