Hus ski 600 s/n location

A place to ask all your questions about Hus Skis or just a great place to spread a little of that Yellow Pride.

I have never seen or heard of an original 600 having the brake handle on the left. The handlebars are usually broken and repaired and I think the original brake handle location was so awkward that people moved it to the left themselves.

I looked closer at this 600 tonight and now I believe both handles were originally on the right. Does someone have a picture of how the brake linkage looks on the 600?

I checked my 600's for handle location...all the double tracks had both handles on the same side, my single track had one handle on each side. Due to small number of single tracks out there , it may be hard to get a more complete survey but I would like to hear if this handle sinerio is correct for the single track 600.

This might not resolve the handle bar issue but when I was 10, my dad showed up with a brand new single track 600. I was assigned to give rides to anyone who wanted. I recall how difficult it was to drive, always ending up on it's side. My dad returned it to the dealer in Deep River and double tracks were installed. I will admit that double tracks were much better and I went on to enjoy the machine for a few years more. I recall distinctively that the gas and brake trottles were on the right side as in the picture supplied by Roch. I cannot recall if they were changed during the upgrade, since I only used it with single track 1 winter. I am sure though that the single and double track was the same machine. We moved in 1967 and in 1968 my dad bought another very common machine the 1968 Ski-Doo Olympique with 2 cylinders horizontally opposed, which I believe they only made that year. I don't know where he got the idea of always getting something weird, but I wish we had kept them.

Really enjoy your site Bruce.

It is fun reading about people's experiences with Hus-Skis-especially when they were brand new! My single track which I believe is 100% original but a little rough condition has the brake handle on the right. Since the actual brake itself is on the right, and they used a solid wire to operate it, I think it would have to be on that side for a straight shot. I think during the conversion the re-used the handlebars with dash, gas tank, and serial #,motor, clutch with different jackshaft, and hood (if there was anything left of it after tipping over!)
