Hus Ski 444 VIN location

Post by gearhead » Sun Mar 01, 2009 9:05 pm

After 20 plus years of ownership I have decided to register my 444 for operation on public trails and can't find the VIN anywhere. I've searched for a tag or stamped numbers and cannot find anything.

You have to stand on your head with a flashlight in one hand and a rag in the other. Do this while examining the interior side panel, behind the ignition switch. It is a bit of a balancing act, but you should find a DYNO tab with the serial number imprinted on it. Let me know what you find.

I looked for the VIN today, and you were right. Not the easiest place to get at. I didn't find any numbers but I could not see very well. Someone has replaced the gas tank and it is really close to the side panel. I will probably have to remove the tank to get a good look. I'll keep you posted.

I did remove the gas tank today to get a better look and did not find any numbers at all. Was this just a stick on tag? And do you know what the number sequence would look like?
Thanks for your help!! gearhead

The DYNO tape was just stuck on and may have fallen off. If your machine was sand blasted then it probably was blasted into oblivion. As far as I know there is no other place to fine this number. I could make you a VIN according to the numbers I have registered with me by other HUS-SKI owners.

All 444's started with 65. The next four digits indicated which machine it was in the production line. ie if the number is 652156 then it was the 2156th machine produced of model 444.

I would like to know the style of cleat you have to determine if it is an early model or later model. That is all.

Barrie
It has the "U" shaped cleats, which by the way I could use a few of if you know anyone who has any for sale.

If my vin number is 651657 does that mean it is a 1965 model 444 ? PS it has the flat 4 hole cleats that have a raised up center ice digger ?
