Hus-ski 444 Track guides

Post by kmskidog » Tue Oct 25, 2016 10:00 pm

I have at times seen discussions regarding the track slapping the bottom side of the fenders on the Hus-ski 444. Some have raised the engine compartment and fender from the under carriage to provide more clearance. The real problem with the model 444 is they did not install the upper track guides that were present in the prior models 200/200a/400. At the time I restored my model 444, I was very tempted to weld in track guides. But wanting it to be 100% correct with the restoration, I did not. Being concerned about the continued track slapping against the fender, I have decide to add them. Not wanting to disrupt my paint, I designed bolt in guides. Using self tapping bolts. A set was made up for Alan from Fairbanks AK and he ran them last winter. They definitively reduced track to fender slap. See pics.

This looks like a very good idea. I would like to make a set for my 444. Could you post some dimensions of the material. Looks like they are down the middle of the track. Thanks Randy.

The bolt in guides are the same ones installed on the 200/200A/400 Hus-ski. They just have an "L" bracket welded to them to allow them to be bolted in rather than welded in as I did not want to wreck the paint on a restored 444. It corrects the issue where the unsupported top track sag caused the track to spring up and down, thus slapping the fender. Does the install of these guides 100% eliminate the slap, no but it reduces it to a very reasonable level, basically the same level of slap you would have on the 200/200A/400 Hus-skis. I could send you a tracing of the guides if you need one. Either private message me or email me at kmhusski@gmail.com. Ken M.
