Wanted - 444 muffler in poor condition

Post by Go Go Diablo » Tue May 01, 2012 7:22 pm

Hi all,

Last year, we reproduced the Diablo 503 muffler as so many of the originals were rotting away and many needed a replacement.

This year, some are looking for the Hus Ski 444 muffler and we no longer have someone to make them for us. If someone has a 444 muffler in poor condition that I can cut up to determine the design, I'd like to see if we can reproduce it. Please contact me if you have one you would donate to the cause.

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce
I just happen to have an old 444 muffler around that I can ship to you if you want it. I also have an old rear sprocket for a diablo I can send along too.
I will get that in the mail in the next day or two for you.

I made some progress on the muffler reconstruction today. I've cut apart the donated muffler and find it to have one simple baffle inside. The size of the shell is about 4-1/2". I'll start looking for materials next week.

After months of gathering parts, I'm close to having those I need to assemble mufflers for the 400, 444 and 600.

Hi All,

For those waiting for mufflers, thank you for being patient.

I have the 400/444 mufflers complete. I've made a few updates that I hope will help:

- The assembly is put together in such a way that the inlet pipe is up against the center threaded rod and welded there. Hopefully, this stops the pipe from breaking loose from the outer shell of the muffler as the can is now supported on the outer shell and also the inner rod.

- The end plates will not cave in when tightening the nuts as just inside the caps, nuts are welded to the threaded rod.

- I've added just a few more holes in both the inlet pipe baffle and the outlet pipe baffle as I've been told that Hus Ski put out a service bulletin recommending to add holes to improve horsepower.

Mufflers are $125 USD

Just curious Bruce , would the brackets that go from muffler to the motor mount also be available for the 444 ?

I presume you are talking about the twisted pieces of flat stock that have the milled slots in them. Sorry, I have not reproduced those pieces.

Thanks for asking though.
