The 444 I just restored had a starting issue. This machine started on three pulls no matter the weather but last week it started, stalled and refused to restart. Close examination of the spark plug wire cap found the problem. There are two basic types of wire to cap connection. The most basic is a coiled spring with a extention that you stab into the wire then cover it with a flexible rubber cover. On my wire was a hard cap with a threaded spear which is twisted into the end of the wire. This spear is in turn connected to a metal cylinder which the spark plug end slides into. The spear had disconnected from the small metal cylinder eliminating the chance for the spark to get to the terminal of the plug. A very simple but bizarre problem. Once the cap was changed the engine started on two pulls.
