Chassis Reinforcements

Postby campbell » Fri Nov 19, 2010 7:02 pm

Just wondering if anybody would know by putting theses flat bars (1/8 thick) reinforcements underneath the chassis if there will there be enough clearance between the track and chassis when reassembled?

Thanks.

I'd be slightly concerned about the track cleats catching them. I like to run my tracks fairly loose, just to the point where they do not slap on the bottom of the chassis. Looser tracks save sprockets and grousers. But with loose tracks and the occasional unexpected snow mogul, the tracks can slap against the underside of the chassis.

On my model 400 HUS-SKI , the deck is two parts. The front part was hanging down enough for the ice cleats to catch the edge and start to peel it back like a sardine can. The same may happen with your flat bar but since it is much more rigid than a HUS-SKI deck, there may be serious concequences. You may want to run parallel flat stock 1/8" x 3/8" from the flat bar to the rear of the deck... say 8" apart. They would prevent the grousers from catching the flatbar.

Is there any way you could put some Teflon strips running from to back as weight may be starting to add up as well?

I was thinking that they might catch, the front ones on each side i think will be ok? , but you's
are right, anything past the front ones might interfere with the cleats ,back to the drawing board.

Thanks for your help guys.

Could you put thin hifax under the deck so the tracks would rub on that instead of the steel you installed??
