Importance of even track adjustments

Post by Go Go Diablo » Sun Aug 09, 2009 7:53 pm

We have discussed on this forum how important it is to evenly adjust the track tensioners on the Diablo. Thought I would share this picture of what happens inside the gearbox when the adjusters are not even.

You can see on the inside of this housing how the large sprocket and chain was wearing against the aluminum. Yikes. That would be a rude awakening driving down the trail when this gearbox finally wore through and POW :o

When I put tracks on, I try to match them up as close to a matching length as possible (tracks have 43 cleats and are about 106" long). Then when installed, I don't bother trying to get the tracks at even tension. I believe it's more important to adjust the adjustment bolts evenly.

Hope it helps someone,

Bruce
