Primary Clutch

Post by Rock » Sun Jul 13, 2008 1:49 pm

Hi

I have a problem with my Primary Clutch. Every time it turns it's making noise. Even when you turn it by hand it's noizy. I have the Hirth 300 cc motor . What can I do so it won't make any noise?

Tks to all

I have never heard of a clutch making noise when turned, they should be silent. Have you determined that it is not the crankcase bearing which is making the noise? Although hard to describe in words, what kind of noise do you hear ...klunking?, banging?, clinking?, thuding?

Everytime that the clutch turn it's making a funny noise like squeaquing or grinding noise. Never hard a noise like that on a clutch.

A grinding noise is bad..bad....bad!!!

When you take it apart there will probably be some metal filings or dust. This may tell you where the problem is. If this clutch works like a HUS-SKI clutch, the the bell housing should not turn freely. If your turns freely, I will guess that you cannot drive your Diablo.

This machine is pretty wierd. Even with the clutch problem I still can ride the 500. Today i wen't for a little spin in the yard. I know that if I don't fix this problem soon i will brake down somewhere this winter. I've sent an email tonight at the previous owner asking him if it's the original motor for this 500 of it came from another machine. I can not take it apart right now cause both machines are going in a show next week-end.

Rock. Take the recoil mechanism off and see if the noise goes away. The centre part which is retained by 3 pins can pop off and rub on the starter cone. Hope this helps. Roy.

Hi Guys

:D Tks for your input. I've took it apart yesterday and the only think that was wrong with it is the bolt was too long. A 1/2 inch too long and put some w40 in the bearing. So for so good. No more noise. Will have to change the belt because it's too long.

It appears that your spring has worn the rub bushing. Installing it the opposite way will bring your spring back to the proper tension once you get the right length bolt. With your bolt being too long, the bell housing was probably further away from the fixed sheave than it should be. This would have given you more engine RPM before engagement of the sheaves since the counterweights would have to swing further to throw the movable sheave. Once you fix all these things, your Diablo might even out run a HUS-SKI. I am guessing, but you may have only had half of your potential speed with your clutch set up.

I've heard a Diablo can out run a Hus Ski with one hand tied behind it's back (or in this case, half a clutch)
