How is the rubber removed from the boggies to be replaced with better rubber from a broken boggie station?

If you are referring to the rubber ring on the Bogie Wheels, I believe you have to grind off the weld on the steel inner ring, install the new rubber ring, then reweld the steel inner ring back on.

If you are referring to the rubber bumpers, the rubber can't be replaced. You have to buy a whole new bumper.

Does that make sense?

I was referring to the wheel. I had wondered if they would stretch over the hub but there seemed to be too much stretching needed to do it that way. Thanks Bruce. I just had the battle of a lifetime removing the battery box from one of my 503's. There was 12 spot welds in the tray and 6 perimeter welds. Safe to say there wasn't much left of the rusted one when I was finished. The chassis was very badly rusted under the battery tray although the rest of the chassis is virtually rust free.

You make an excellent point about the corrosion under the battery tray. When I get to my 503 restoration later this year, I'll have to look for that.

Hi ,I have replaced tires by stretching them off and on the rim. Do it on a hot day when rubber is soft. It is easier to take them off than put them on. A tapered cone tool would be nice to put them on-took them off with a pair of screwdrivers but would mess up new paint trying to put them on that way!

I did the screwdriver technique with much success. Just like changing a bicycle tire.
