Mystery Part Contest 1-28-13

Post by Go Go Diablo » Mon Jan 28, 2013 10:14 pm

Hi all you Diablo Enthusiasts.

Lets have a little fun. Here is an unusual part on one of the Diablos. It is a thick metal piece of angle. Can you identify the part?

If you can, shoot me an email and tell me what it is. Please do not post the answer on the forum. For those that get it right, I will draw a name and award a prize. Lets run the contest between now and the end of February.

Come on all, let's hear those guesses!

So far we have had a couple of guesses, but still looking for the first correct guess.

For those who have been scouring through your Diablo Parts Catalogs, sorry, you won't find this piece listed. How's that for a hint? :D

Wait now, aren't you the one who rebuilt the 500 and then the bogie stations fell off on the maiden voyage?

Hmmmmmm

By the way, we have one correct answer to date. Good job to the secret contestent.

So Barrie was on the right track as his 500 restoration left parts all along the maiden voyage path.

This mystery part goes on the Diablo 500 and would not fit the other models.

Only one correct guess to date. Looking for other guesses! :D

We are down to the last week. This "Mystery Part" is living up to it's expectation of being a stumper to many. With that, here is one last clue:

The part was supplied to address an engineering design flaw and is mounted somewhere under the hood.

Good luck all!

Bruce

The mystery part is a bracket to catch the top of the motor when the motor mounts break loose.

Three times in the years I've been doing this, I've come across this bracket. Never knowing what it was and convinced I knew every piece on every Diablo, I almost threw them away a number of times. But they were Diablo red, so I kept wondering what could they possibly be used for.

Then a few months back, I was visiting Dave M up in Cedar, Minnesota. He was showing me his 500 and 503 and when he opened up the hood of his 500, there it was! I could not believe my eyes. It's that part I've had on the shelf all this time!

When you think about it, the bracket makes for a good fix to a poor design. Without the bracket, the weight of the motor is too much for the two rubber motor mounts and over time, the mounts break and the motor crashes down into the fuel tank. I'd say this is a must have for all Diablo 500 owners.

Congratulations to Math Harvey from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec and Roy Teske from Gatineau, Quebec. They will be sent a little prize for getting the right answer. And for those who tried but failed to get the correct answer, thank you too for trying.

Also a big thanks out to Dave for sending me these pictures and giving us a little laugh this winter as many of you were scratching your heads trying to figure it out.
