Carb issues

Post by Hermy » Sun Dec 11, 2016 12:37 pm

Well I've been trying to restore my 502 for ,how long Bruce ? Now if I pour a bit of gas into the carb it'll fire briefly but just refuses to draw the fuel ,can see the fuel in the line.

Would a primer bulb possibly be the answer ? The carb has been rebuilt (tillotson)
Thanks for any input
Herman

Tillotson needles are held in the seats with pressure from a spring and lever. Occasionally, the needle can get stuck in the seat.

Remove the hose and give the carb a shot of compressed air through the inlet nipple. Sometimes you can hear the needle actually pop. Then hook up the fuel line and try it again.

Let us know how that works for you,

Bruce

Hey hi, great advise and it works. Would this procedure also work on the Tilotson carbs on a L152 JLO ? No idea if they are constructed the same but assume they are. Thanks, Christian

The same thing works for the jlo but I like to use very low pressure so as not to bend the needle arm inside the carb. A sudden blast at 100psi might do that

Weird, I'll try to change settings on the PM, no matter it's Christmas and will try to contact you via regular e-mail next week, thanks again and have a good one
