444 Frame Mod

Post by Jano » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:09 am

I posted earlier that I was modifying my 444 frame to get some extra clearance for the tracks. The frame was cracked so I had to seperate the frame the same way we do for a fender replacement. After that I cut out the cracked piece and welded a new one, which you can see in the pictures. Before reattaching the frame, I welded a piece front to back to make it stronger and at the same time raise it by that thickness. The other part of the frame was then welded to that piece with the results you can see in the pictures. It turned out OK, (I think) but has yet to be tested in the snow. So for those of you wondering, I have put a few pictures that show better what I mean.

How much did you raise it? It looks like about an inch. Can you post a pic or two of the whole machine so we can see what it looks like from the side? I'm curious to see if it is noticable. I was going to raise up my Honda/Hus-ski project about a half an inch, but I forgot about at the time. I remembered after the chassis was welded back together and I wasn't going to cut it back apart. Thanks

Here is a picture from the side. I have not completed the rebuild yet but will post the finish product soon (in the snow I hope). The mod actually raised it 3/4 inch with the cutting and welding.
